Representation of the Antagonist

Representation is the construct of media companies portraying certain individuals, characters, genders or backgrounds. In my A2 media Music video, I’ve portrayed the main antagonist as being a teenaged boy with his hood up. This is because in typical media, teenaged Boys are represented to be rebellious and a threat to society while also being dangerous to the rest of the public. The meaning behind having his hood up gives seismic codes of teenagers hiding their identity through committing crimes and joining gangs which is also a threat to the public. This could link to Levi Strauss’ theory of binary oppositions between the young and old generation. Theoretically, an older generation is more likely to believe in badly behaved teenagers but from a younger generation’s perspective, the representation and physical appearance may look average and normal which could possibly emphasise the fact that the teenaged protagonist is more naïve than what an older protagonist might be due to how the antagonist looks.
